Diabetes is a condition that affects millions of people worldwide. Those with diabetes either do not produce insulin at all (type 1) or their bodies produce insulin, but not enough to use the glucose in their foods for fuel (type 2). Type 1 diabetes is often called juvenile diabetes because the onset is often during childhood, and it is almost always diagnosed before age 40. Type 2 diabetes, the form that is most common, can occur at any time in a person’s life. If you or a family member suffer from either type, then you should know how important it is to use a blood glucose meter to keep track of their blood sugar levels. Blood sugars that frequently fall above or below the normal range can be disastrous to overall health, so doctors recommend that those with diabetes check their sugar often and treat abnormal blood sugar quickly to avoid becoming ill or facing worse consequences. Research has shown that over time, high levels of glucose can lead to heart disease, stroke, blindness, nerve damage and other problems. The National Institute of Health has studied extensively Diabetes. Use this link to see signs of Diabetes.
